This year's Venice Fourth of July fireworks begins shortly after sunset on Saturday, which is running about 8:30 this time of the year.
No one is allowed on the Jetty from Friday until Sunday, for safety reasons and to get the fireworks set up.
The best viewing spots are along Venice and Nokomis beaches, unless of course you are fortunate enough to be on a boat. Officials say people who want to watch the fireworks from their boat need to be in place by 8:30 and plan to stay there for awhile. The waterways will not be accesible until after the last bottle rocket has been launched.
You can thank the Sertoma Club of Venice for keeping this rich tradition going strong. The Service Club members have spent hundreds of hours in front of retail stores collecting money for the fireworks. The group raised $10,000 with the City of Venice pitching in $15,000.
