The Myakka River, a Florida Wild and Scenic River, flows through 58 square miles of wetlands, prairies and pinelands.  Visitors can enjoy viewing wildlife, sunrise and sunset from a boardwalk that stretches out over Upper Myakka Lake, and the river also provides for fishing and canoeing. The river, and the prairies it flows through, houses and protects many endangered plants and animals.
