fossil exhibit flyer    A new must see is at the Venice Museum & Archives. Located at 351 Nassau Street South, in the historic Triangle Inn, the museum has had a fossil exhibit since it opened. They are now shining a spotlight on this area's amazing ancient creatures, from both land and sea in its newest exhibit, "Digging Up Discoveries: Southwest Florida Fossils". The exhibit is part of the museum's Community Curators series in which local organizations are invited to work with the museum's exhibit director to create an exhibit. Digging Up Discoveries features more than 350 fossils collected by members of the Manasota Fossil Club and Southeast Florida Fossil Society. With this exhibit, you can glimpse the fascinating world of Ice Age Mammals roaming this area, from mammoths to giant sloths, living as recently as 10,000 years ago. Learn about the monster shark megalodon, shells, corals. and other sea life dating back over 20 million years. Interactive and hands on activities are available for adults and children. Fossil books and shark tooth items, including teeth. postcards, and jewelry are available in the Museum's gift shop. This is a great opportunity for a field trip with the kids that will fascinate them as well as educate. Our local collectors and beach searchers will love to see the riches that have been collected locally. The museum is now open on one Saturday a month.  Call 486-2487 to check for open days and times.
