For those of you who know the old Verandah Inn motel it has reopened. Part of this re-opening is a new little restaurant in the front part of the motel. Known as the "Blu' Island Bistro", its only been open a few days. It is currently open only for breakfast and lunch. I stopped in there today and snagged the "Daily Bistro Burger". It turned out to be a personal favorite of mine, a good angus beef burger covered with high class shittake mushrooms and swiss cheese. So, I can vouch for the burger, homemade potato chips and good ice tea. Sue Laskowski and her son Alan Laskowski have returned as the proud proprietors of this community bistro. Chef Alan is originally from Philadelphia and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. He started out at the Chalfonte Hotel in Cape May, N.J. He owned and operated the Cafe Flower Shop in Philadelphia for 7 years. He's been featured on he Food Network and has won several recognitions. He was the proprietor of the Kingfish Cafe for 7 years until he moved. Now happy to be back in his original location, his sister/artist Dawn Surak has decorated the newly renovated restaurant. They consider it has lots of personality and the local flare that represents the Island of Venice. They have a very tempting breakfast menu. I look forward to sampling their quiche of the day. They do have a kids menu and a variety of desserts. Dessert and bakery items can be bought on site. Please check it out and let us know what tickled your palette.  Enjoy the good food in Venice.
