Question: I read that the El Patio Hotel in Venice has been sold. What will the new owners do with it? —Ernie G.
Answer: If their own track record is any indicator, the can-do couple who bought it will make everything that’s old seem new again—but in the best possible way, of course. David and Susan Macrae have already shown that they know how to give people in downtown Venice exactly what they want with Jackson’s American Grill and Bushido, among other successful businesses. They’ve said they plan to do some renovations to the El Patio; my guess is that whatever they do will be first-rate and honor the memory of Faye Miles, who owned and operated the hotel for 60 years before passing on last year at the age of 102.
