Venice is one of those perfect small towns to live in for a patriotic holiday. The U.S. Flag is flying everywhere. There are famillies packing up to spend time on the beach. The grocery store was full of folks shopping for picnics, barbeques and other social gatherings. The TV is saturating the market with week-end specials. One of my favorite spots to see family fun in action, is the Youth Fountain downtown. It is happily peopled with famillies laughing and playing. That is always a good sight to behold. The John Addams series will be aired all day Monday. Yankee Doodle Dandy will also be played. My favorites are the Boston Pops symphony on TV playing a patriotic concert ending with the 1812 Overture while the fireworks are shot off in sync. I always watch this concert, after I watch our local fireworks. Many thanks to Sertoma and the City of Venice for providing our local display. I have found if I climb up to the third floor balcony, I can view the Venice, Nokomis and Englewood displays. I am so spoiled that I don't have to leave the house to enjoy it all. As a kid, my grandfather always took us out on his boat to veiw the show from the water. On a calm night, the water acted as a looking glass and reflected the fireworks in all their glory.  When my boys were little, my husband would walk them from our house, down the beach to view the show. They would come home wet, sandy and sweaty having had a marvelous time. I just like the fact, that its a relaxing holiday, where family and friends can have a good time together. Happy Fourth of July Venice.
