Does anyone remember the Nokomis Elementary School?  It was moved out to Laurel Road and merged with the Laurel Middle School. Its' old location stood sad and lonely for a while. The County then took advantage of its fabulous location. The Nokomis Community Park is a wonderful addition to the Nokomis community. The park is located at 234 Nippino Trail. It has a Community Center comprising of three rooms. The main hall will hold 164 people. It has a small kitchen with a service window, a sink, a micro wave oven and a fridge with a freezer. The other two rooms will hold 45 people each. One is a small meeting room and the other is an arts & crafts room. The arts & crafts room has a sink, counter top, a portable wall and cable TV. All these spaces are available to rent for meetings, weddings and community gatherings. The outside has 17 acres of open park space. There is access to indoor restrooms. For the sports lovers, they have a covered basketball court, two sand volley ball courts and two tennis courts. There is also a cricket field and a multi purpose field. A covered stage is also on the grounds. The park has some charming water views and a fishing pier. You can use the six covered picnic shelters with a barbecue grill. For the kids, there is a covered playground. A walking trail of about 1/2 mile winds around the park. One of the amenities is a fitness work out station.  The park also serves as a trail head for the Legacy Trail. There is a community garden on the grounds with free mulch and compost available.  I have seen this facility used for wedding receptions, birthday parties and the Old Timers Picnic. If you haven't checked out this all purpose park, do so. It's a treat.
