Yesterday, the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce held their32nd Annual Business of the Year Awards. This is actually a young program for the VACC.  The VACC is 86 years old, which makes it older than the City of Venice. The awards were held at the Plantation Golf & Country Club over a delicious lunch. The keynote speaker was Dr. Christopher Cortman, local psychologist and author of "Your Mind-An Owner's Manual for a Better Life" His speech was humorous and effective. If it is a true reflection of his book, I'm looking for a copy.  Awards for Better Business are presented in five categories. The first award went to a Non Profit/Not For Profit organizarion. The winner this year was The Center of Hope. I had not heard of them before, so I'll have to keep an eye out for their activities. The Small Business Award went to a local family business, Rocky's Drywall, Inc. They were really pleased to win. The Medium Business Award went to a business from Downtown Venice, Puttin' On The Ritz. Robin and Walter were there to accept. Robin was sorry the rest of the crew had to be working back at the shop. I'm sure if you visit you'll find their award displayed in a prominent position. The Large Business Award was won by anoth local family business. The ever reliable Keeton's Office Supply Co., Inc. won. I've used them for years for my office supplies, they deliver in a very timely fashion. The Young Professionals Award had 15 nominess in the running.  The winner was Adam Carter's Infinite Legacy company. Venice has more Mom & Pop businesses doing excellent work. I always try to shop and deal locally. The directories for the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce and Venice MainStreet are where I look first for all my needs. I hope you are all doing the same.  Congratulations to all the winners. Support local business.
