Friday evening, the beach—and free art. That’s the winning combo behind Fridays @ 5, the Hermitage Artists Retreat’s free programs that invite the public to share the work and creative process of some of the acclaimed artists who visit there. It’s hard to find a more alluring stretch of shoreline than this blissful spot on Manasota Key, where rising-star artists are invited to live and create in the collection of historic cottages overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.
The series kicks off on Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. with Word and Image: The Many Worlds of Regina Scully and Roberto Bentivegna. Regina Scully is a New Orleans-based artist who creates micro-universes in her paintings. She’ll talk about those works, some of which are also on exhibit through December in the Hermitage’s Palm House. And Italian screenwriter and film director Roberto Bentivegna, known for his award-winning short films, will read from some of his screenplays.
Feel free to pack refreshments and beverages, and be sure to linger on the beach to watch the sunset after the talks.
The Hermitage Artist Retreat is at 6630 Manasota Key Road in Englewood. Reservations for this series are required; go to www.HermitageArtistRetreat.org.
