Yes, we have our everything-Italian theme going on in Venice. But today it's all about the Irish. The biggest problem is choosing where you want to go to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
The Crow's Nest Restaurant hosts its 40th Annual Limerick Competition at 8 p.m. tonight in the tavern. It's a hoot as the staff read the wittiest limericks, whittled down from dozens of submissions. You definitely want to get there early or prepare to stand and drink your green beer. There's also a sing-a-long with singer Darrell Lawshorne. The Nest is serving--what else?--corned beef and cabbage and Irish stew, along with its regular menu in the upstairs dining room.
Long-time restaurateur Tom Carney is turning up the green tonight at his already Irish TJ Carney's on Venice Avenue downtown. The menu is green and so is the food, featuring a New York style corned beef piled on deli rye with Russian dressing.
And at the British Open Pub, it goes without saying that everyone will be decked out in green and singing in their beer. The Pub is having Irish dancers, the Seamus McCarthy Band and bagpipes. The outdoor patio will be delightful in this gorgeous weather, if you can snag a seat. Erin go bragh!
