VENICE AVENUE, CIRCA 1926

Does this downtown street look familiar to you? It’s the way Venice Avenue looked about 90 years ago, when the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers was developing the city of Venice. The two-story building on the left, a typical multi-use structure of the period housing both retail and apartments, is the Johnson Schoolcraft Building at 201 W. Venice Ave., now on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s significant as a representation of the popular Mediterranean Revival style.
