Q: Where is your favorite spot to catch a beautiful sunset?

“As the founder of Venice Plein Air, and a local artist since moving here from Washington in 1995, it’s hard to pick just one! I love Venice sunsets—they are our snowflakes, no two ever alike. My No. 1 spot, though, would have to be the South Jetty. It’s long been labeled my ‘attitude adjustment’ location. I have traveled this country, and I must say, there is no place like home.” – Karen Hitt, artist

“My favorite way to watch a Venice sunset is on the water, with a glass of champagne, drifting on the boat along Venice and Nokomis beaches with people I love. Each time I’m able to do this, our pristine waters and the colors that gleam against them create a new and unique masterpiece to enjoy. For me, it slows down time and makes me appreciate life in the moment.” – Mary Morris, Venice Art Center executive director

“My favorite sunset spot is Fins’ outdoor seating overlooking the beach and the pier. Not only is it a comfortable place to be, the food and drinks are outstanding. Visitors to our island converse with those who live here, which exemplifies why we are the second ‘Friendliest Seaside Town’ in the nation.” – Sherrey Welch, Michael Saunders & Company realtor

“My favorite sunset spot is at the beach access on Alhambra Road, which happens to be close to where we live. It’s a special place for us after dinner and when we have out-of-town family and guests. It’s a nice walk, and fun to watch everyone snapping pictures of our beautiful sunsets. I absolutely love Venice.” – Lynn Moseley, Venice Area Beautification Inc. volunteer

“My favorite sunset spot is Midnight Pass in Osprey. You can get there by boat up the Intracoastal Waterway, park on the ICW side, and walk over to the beach on the Gulf side. It’s peaceful, quiet and never crowded. Often we’re the only ones there.” -- Bob Klingbeil, Venice attorney and Sertoma Club president
