Every year, Venice City Hall displays these lighted animals. They were the creation of Venice resident George Hakkio, who every year presented his grandchildren with a new critter during the Christmas season. Soon they covered his yard in East Venice, where cars full of families paraded down his street to see the retired engineer’s creation. In 2004, his widow donated them to the city and since they have become a Venice tradition.
