Question: I’m going to visit Venice and I love fishing. What are the best fishing spots that don’t require a boat? —Eden R.

Answer: We’re a fisherwoman’s paradise, so it’s no wonder you can’t resist the “lure” of our waters! An all-time favorite is the Venice Fishing Pier, where, depending on the time of year, you can catch pompano, snapper, King and Spanish mackerel, and even tarpon. Other spots that are smokin’ hot include the South Jetty as well as the bridges at Albee Road in Nokomis and Blackburn Point Road in Osprey, where you might hook anything from snook to lady fish, sheep’s head and mangrove snapper. When you’re ready to share your big fish story with a few pals, some great watering holes are only a few steps from every location I’ve just mentioned. I’d be remiss if I did not mention the many spots throughout Englewood and the canals of North Port.
